Restrictions were removed on LGBTQ+ Christians being ordained or appointed to pastoral ministries. The conference voted to cleanse the <em>Discipline<\/em> of all discriminatory and harmful language about the practice of homosexuality.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">We invite everyone to share fully in the worship services, life, ministry, and leadership of Briensburg United Methodist Church, inclusive of age, race, nationality, gender, LGBTQ, theology, politics, and legal status.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Unanimous Church Council Inclusiveness Statement vote on July 15, 2018.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>We join the Reconciling Ministries Network as a Reconciling Congregation.\u00a0 We welcome people of all sexual orientations and gender identities to participate fully in the worship, life, ministry, membership, and leadership of Briensburg United Methodist Church.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<em>Unanimous Single Governance Board vote on March 3, 2019.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/briensburg.umcchurches.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/rmnlogoweb-263x300.jpg?resize=169%2C193&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"169\" height=\"193\" \/>Briensburg UMC hopes to amplify the message that even the smaller rural churches like ours\u00a0do not stand alone in our resolute affirmation that God loves everyone. \u00a0To the UMC, we point out\u00a0that God continues to demonstrate the reconciling work of Jesus on the cross by manifesting the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the ministries and relationships of LGBTQ Christians. To all LGBTQ Christians, we absolutely welcome and need your full participation and leadership in our congregations.<br \/>\n<em>Unanimous Leadership Bible Study response to being included by the Reconciling Ministries Network as the 1,000th Reconciling Congregation on March 29, 2019.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Inclusiveness means openness, acceptance, and support that enables all persons to participate in the life of the Church, the community, and the world; therefore, inclusiveness denies every semblance of discrimination.<br \/>\n\u00b6\u00a0<strong>140, Book of Discipline<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We invite everyone to participate fully in the worship services, life, ministry, membership, and leadership of our congregation is because that is how we all grow together in the love and knowledge and grace of God.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Inclusive of Age<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;Youth who are professing members of the church have all rights and responsibilities of church membership except voting on matters prohibited by state law.&#8221;\u00a0<em>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/what-we-believe\/can-youth-be-members-of-the-church-council\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Can youth be members of the church council?<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;Clearly an infant can do nothing to save himself or herself, but is totally dependent on God&#8217;s grace, as we all are &#8212; whatever our age.&#8221;<br \/>\n<em>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/what-we-believe\/whats-the-difference-between-infant-baptism-and-believers-baptism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">What\u2019s the difference between infant baptism and believer\u2019s baptism?<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Inclusive of Race<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;We recognize racism as sin.&#8221;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/what-we-believe\/the-social-community\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>(Social Principles: The Social Community)<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/what-we-believe\/charter-for-racial-justice-policies-in-an-interdependent-global-community\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8211; Book of Resolutions: A Charter for Racial Justice Policies in an Interdependent Global Community<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/what-we-believe\/what-the-church-says-racism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">What the Church Says: Racism<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gcorr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">General Commission on Religion and Race<\/a>\u00a0(GCORR) focuses\u00a0on bringing about full and equal participation of the racial and ethnic constituencies in The United Methodist Church. The commission carries out its work through advocacy of the issues and by reviewing and monitoring the practices of the denomination.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Inclusive of Nationality<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;We recognize, embrace, and affirm all persons, regardless of country of origin, as members of the family of God.&#8221;<br \/>\n(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/what-we-believe\/the-social-community#immigrants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Social Principles: The Social Community<\/em><\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Inclusive of Gender<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Women and men are invited and encouraged to participate\u00a0equally in the leadership of our local church and at every level of our denomination including service as teachers, preachers, pastors, officers, deacons, elders, superintendents, and bishops.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;We affirm women and men to be equal in every aspect of their common life. It\u2019s reflecting with others in the Christian community about the good news of God\u2019s love in Christ.\u00a0 &#8230;\u00a0\u00a0In John Wesley\u2019s balanced and rigorous ways for thinking through Christian doctrine, we find four major sources or criteria, each interrelated. These we often call our &#8216;theological guidelines&#8217;: Scripture, tradition, experience, and reason.&#8221;<br \/>\n<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/what-we-believe\/theological-guidelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(Theological Guidelines)<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Inclusive of Politics<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I met those of our society who had votes in the ensuing election,<br \/>\nand advised them<br \/>\n1. To vote, without fee or reward, for the person they judged most worthy<br \/>\n2. To speak no evil of the person they voted against, and<br \/>\n3. To take care their spirits were not sharpened against those<br \/>\nthat voted on the other side.\u201d<br \/>\n<em>(The Journal of John Wesley, October 6, 1774)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/what-we-believe\/political-community\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Social Principles: The Political Community<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Inclusive of Legal Status<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Restorative Justice<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;In the love of Christ, who came to save those who are lost and vulnerable, we urge the creation of a genuinely new system for the care and restoration of victims, offenders, criminal justice officials, and the community as a whole. Restorative justice grows out of biblical authority, which emphasizes a right relationship with God, self, and community.
